Unity Church

This church had its last worship service in June of 1997 and the congregation of approximately 45 members donated it to the Menno Pioneer Heritage Association at that time. In August of 1997, the church was moved to Pioneer Acres. Originally, this church was in the country about 14 miles Northwest of Menno. It took 3 hours on the road to move it. This structure was built in 1923 at the total cost of $6,622.48, including materials and furnishings. This is the 3rd church for this congregation which was formed in 1890. The congregation outgrew the other two churches. The interior has a unique arched tin ceiling. The floor, woodwork, pew and pastor’s chair are made of oak. The bell, weighing 820 pounds, is made of ingot copper and imported India tin and is tuned to the tone of G sharp. The church seats about 180, with room for 40 more in the balcony. The original church had a basement. The church was wired for electricity in 1950 at the cost of $90.00 for labor, supplies, and lights. The total electricity bill for 1951 was $18.26.
